Just some assorted names I decided to try out; it is by no means exhaustive, and I may be forgetting a handful that I randomly plugged in:
Kepal wrote:

  • Emperor
  • Empress
  • Dark Councilor
  • Darth
  • Lord
  • Jedi
  • Master
  • Sentinel
  • Operative
  • Wizard
  • Ranger
  • Duke
  • Duchess
  • Baron
  • Commissar
  • Colonel Commissar
  • Private
  • Corporal
  • Lieutenant
  • Captain
  • Major
  • Colonel
  • Aristocra
  • Inquisitor
  • Lord Inquisitor
  • Marshal
  • Praetorian
  • Commissioner
  • Kommissar
  • Chieftain
  • Orater
  • Prophet
  • Oracle
  • Escort (Don't ask, someone asked me to try this one.)
  • Chancellor
  • Officer
  • President
  • Crusader

Regarding military rank abbreviations: they seemed to work, however the system doesn't allow punctuation of any kind in names, so they come out looking somewhat weird (i.e. Maj Kepal, Col Kepal); I suppose it'll be up to personal preference on that one.

I'm curious. How does this work with whispers? Say you want to whisper a player using the name "Chancellor Saresh"; surely it would just look for a player with the name "Chancellor" to whisper, so I'd be curious to know how they plan to get round that.

The new whisper command is the following:
SWTOR wrote:
/whisper Chancellor_Saresh: Message

I believe the underscore works in lieu of a space (I've personally not been able to try it out yet), but the colon serves as the barrier between the intended recipient's name and the intended message.

BioWare I am disappoint. Are you sure it's those names themselves that are a no go or maybe someone already take them? Like for example, did you just test "Colonel" or did you do "Colonel Kepal"?

If you're taking requests, I'd like to see if Commandant, Commodore, Commander, Sergeant, Staff Sergeant, First Sergeant, Color Sergeant, Sergeant Major, Chief, Senior Chief, and Master Chief can work.

Interesting. Thank you.

I attempted both 'Colonel' with and without an attached name, neither worked; it seems that certain words are simply blocked for one reason or another - I'm thinking some are due to the words being related to or part of existing titles (General was originally slated as a Jedi Knight title, and I believe Colonel was buried in the game files at one point as well :-( ).

As for the others: Commodore works, but Commander does not. I somehow skipped over Sergeant (and any variation therein), so I'll check those out when I'm home this evening; that being said, Sergeant Major will likely not work since it contains 'Major' (which I can confirm doesn't work), same goes for Master Chief (Master doesn't work, and I'm fairly certain Chief doesn't either). As I indicated before, any titles containing two words (Staff Sergeant) will require you to use your legacy surname to not look stupid (unless you wish to simply go by 'Staff Sergeant').

I'll try to figure out a way to combine the requests into something cohesive over the next few days, but I'll get to yours tonight, Jean.

I went through and thoroughly checked each title, making sure to only use 'Kepal' as the second word (when able). Each of the above titles worked, even the ones I had previously checked and written off as invalid. You'll be happy to know that I then went back again and confirmed that both Colonel and General now seem to be working.

Guess I'll be toying around with this further - some other night, though. Gets a bit boring, constantly remaking characters.

Dude you've done more than your fair share, and thank you so much for it, appreciate the help!

I feel as though the sudden ability to make these names has something to do with tonight's scheduled PTS playtest, or something done to help facilitate it.

I dunno. Just feels weird that one day these aren't working, then they suddenly are the next day. Probably would be best to periodically check these.
