Contraband Slot Machine clarification originally posted on SWTOR.

EricMusco wrote:
Hey folks,

We know that there have been many questions about the Contraband Slot Machine and its intent. Here are a few notes on it:

  • The Contraband Slot Machine is not bugged.
  • It is 100% not an exploit to use the Slot Machine.
  • If you feel the desire to sell access to your Stronghold, that’s totally up to you. As a reminder, do not scam people as that is against ToS.
  • We added the Slot Machine as a fun idea based on the positive feedback from the Nightlife event, so spend those credits to your heart’s content!

With that being said, we do hear the concern from many of you around the effects of the Jawa Junk’s drop rate on the economy. We are going to take a look at it and make changes accordingly. I will let you know once I know more. In the meantime, have fun!

More Contraband Slot Machine tweaks originally posted on SWTOR.

EricMusco wrote:
Hey folks,

First, as Tait alluded to we will be having a maintenance tomorrow, on Wednesday the 21st. We didn't have our regular Tuesday maintenance due to the federal holiday here in the states. I wanted to let you know a few of the things coming in tomorrow’s patch:

  • Item rarity borders will now show properly
  • No more getting stuck in Blood Hunt if someone dies to Jos or Valk Beroya
  • The Underlurker will no longer rush extremely quickly back to his target after leaping
  • There have been adjustments made to the Contraband Slot Machine (more on this in a second)
  • There is also one other fix, check the final patch notes for more info

Let’s talk about the changes coming to the Contraband Slot Machine. When we were going into 3.0.2, we wanted to make Grade 11 materials more accessible to more players than they were at the time. As you know, we simultaneously put in the Contraband Slot Machine, which afforded you a fairly good chance to get Jawa Junk and other Jawa vendor scrap parts. This had two effects:

  • It had the risk of taking the Grade 11 material costs in the economy, in the long term, to a price below where we would like
  • It created a situation where it could be more profitable to completely ignore crew skills by use of the Slot Machine

With those in mind, we decided to make the following changes, which will be live tomorrow:

  • The drop rate on all Jawa scraps, has been greatly reduced
  • The drop rate on Contraband Reputation items, has been increased
  • To insure that the Slot Machine is still an awesome item to strive for, we have added a faction specific walker mount as a very rare drop
  • Lastly, we have increased the cost of each Slot Machine coin from 500 to 750 credits. It was always our intent that the coin cost would increase over time as we add more Slot Machines that accept the coin

Thanks everyone!

Community Stream changes originally posted on SWTOR.

EricMusco wrote:
Hey folks!

Let's talk a little bit about our weekly live streams. First, scheduling. We are not going to be streaming this Friday, 1/30 so you might be wondering when are we streaming next? More on that in a second.

We as a team have been taking a hard look at our weekly streams and we have all agreed on one thing, we could do a lot better. Although we have a great time doing them, we don't feel like the format is as good as it should be for all of you tuning in. We have a seen a lot of feedback over the past weeks about how and what we stream and there have been a lot of great points made.

Here are some of the things we plan on doing differently, when we start back up again:

  • Playing Classes we are truly familiar with - We spend a lot of time playing classes on the stream for fun. All that does is show us playing something at a fairly mediocre skill level and doesn't make for good viewership. Not saying we're pros, but we can do better.

  • A heavier concentration on PvE - I love Warzones, they are my favorite content in fact. However, when we play, it ends up causing a global taunt effect. Someone tuning in is just watching us run out of the spawn area and die repeatedly. Not really a good representation of our content.

  • Guild/Streamer support - We are working out the details, but we definitely want to figure out methods to include these folks specifically more on our streams.

  • Server/Faction variance - We do this a little bit already, but we can look at being more flexible in bouncing around to different servers and factions. Give everyone an equal chance to join in on the fun!

  • Scheduling - We are gonna take a look at both the day and times that we are streaming. There are likely better time frames, lengths, days, etc for our streams to occur.

  • A real Q&A - Right now we passively answer questions as we play. It creates a mixed stream where we are kinda playing and kinda doing a Q&A. We want to separate these. Let's spend some time concentrating on playing with you guys and then lets stop playing altogether and just answer questions for a bit.

Here we look to all of you as well. What would you like to see us do differently with our streams? Any and all feedback welcome.

Ravagers Exploit Consequences originally posted on SWTOR.

EricMusco wrote:
Hey folks,

As I talked about in my previous post we needed to finalize our data and ensure that we were ready to move on appropriate actions for those players who abused the Ravager’s Exploit. Since we have been a bit more open in our process regarding this particular exploit, we thought it would be best to bring it full circle and tell you specifically what we are doing to those players. As of this post, our actions against players has begun. Here are the types of actions we are taking based on the severity of their exploits:

  • Received a warning along with anywhere between 1-7 days of in-game suspension time.
    • Anyone who received an in-game suspension will also lose their forum privileges for the same period of time.
  • For our most egregious offenders, they will have received a suspension up to a permanent suspension.
Inside of those categories of player’s it is also possible they could have very specific additional actions taken against them including:
  • Removal of inappropriately obtained high-end gear and crafting materials
  • Removal of credits and commendations
We know that one of the gameplay impacts from this exploit was an influx of crafters being able to make items which they reverse engineered from ill-gotten gains. Any player who exploited (regardless of severity) and gained a crafting pattern is likely to see that pattern removed.

So all of you know what to expect, this is an example of the messaging sent to those players who are receiving an in-game suspension:

Spoiler: Show

We didn’t take these actions lightly and reviewed every account to determine where we could be lenient. From our end, this was a no win situation. We feel responsible for allowing the exploit to occur and remain in the game for an unreasonable length of time, but we also cannot and will not condone cheating. Thankfully, a large majority of our players didn’t exploit at all, but unfortunately, some of those who did have been with us for a long time, even all the way back to launch. It breaks our hearts to see a few of those loyal players partake in the exploit. Still, it would be unfair to not punish those players, and so we had to take action.

We have all learned some valuable lessons this past month or so, and we’re hopeful to catch these types of situations long before they get released or very quickly thereafter. Please continue to do what you can to notify us quickly should we create another situation where someone can benefit by exploiting a bug in the game.

We appreciate your understanding of our position and hope you’ll continue to enjoy your time with us. We have a lot of great additions coming to SWTOR this year and we look forward to sharing them with you.

Good afternoon!

As I mentioned in my introduction email, one of the things I wanted to tackle right away is improving communication and giving y’all a heads up on what’s going on with SWTOR on a weekly basis. Here’s our plan for this week – please keep in mind this is the plan. Some of these items are still going through approvals, which is why I’m vague on some of the details. J

Darth Marr Spotlight

Starting this week, we will begin character driven themed weeks featuring some of the major figures from Shadow of Revan. We will be posting story blogs focused on these characters. Being a bit of a Darth Marr fan girl, I chose him to go first – the plan is to post his blog later this week.

Game Update 3.1 Lander

Our Marketing Team posted the Game Update 3.1: Conflict on Rishi Lander today. I don’t think there’s any surprises or reveals – we’ve talked about pretty much everything coming in 3.1 – two Hard Mode Flashpoints and PvP Season 4 – but let me know if you have any questions.

Attached are some screenshots from Game Update 3.1 that y’all can use if want!

PvP Win Trading Post

Musco is working on a post that discusses how we handle win trading in Ranked PvP. This should go up sometime this week!

PAX East Cantina Details

We have pretty much everything finalized for the Cantina in Boston – we are just waiting on the room number. Once we have that, we will post our usual community blog with all the details. Besides the room number, here’s the rest of the information:

Hyatt Grand Regency on March 7th, 2015. It’s the same hotel as last year

What about Cantinas for the rest of the year? Here’s the rough schedule!

PAX East – Boston: March 7th 2015
Star Wars Celebration – April
SDCC – July
Gamescom – August
PAX Prime – September
NYCC – October

I think that’s about it for this week. As always, feel free to email me with any questions you may have!

Win trading clarification for Season 4 Ranked PvP and beyond originally posted on SWTOR.

EricMusco wrote:
Hey folks,

Season 4 for PvP is about to start and we wanted everyone to understand the Rules of Engagement and how we plan to keep it fair and fun for everyone who participates in Ranked Warzones:

In The Past

  • Throughout the Season we would track data around games being played by each character.
  • At the end of the Season we compare data to look for possible win-traders.
  • Anyone whom we are 100% sure has win-traded received action against their account. The action we took was to completely reset their rating to zero. This would mean they would receive no end of season rewards and would have no credit for taking part in that season.

What We Learned

  • By doing a single large data review, it created a situation where someone could have partially win-traded may have been overlooked.
  • Since all of the actions took place at the end of the season, most players didn’t realize any action had been taken.
  • This perception was further enhanced by our continued silence on the topic.

Starting with Season 4

  • An analysis will occur weekly and continue throughout the season. A warning will be sent to any player who has taken part in win-trading or any other area of misconduct. The warning lets the player know they may be doing something that could lead them to losing their rating, any seasonal rewards, or more severe actions.
  • If a player receives a warning and continues to engage in the same activity we will take further action. Actions include any or all of the following: rating resets on that character, rating resets for all characters on their account, and game time suspensions.
  • On a regular basis, we’ll communicate via the forums and let you know the type of actions that took place. Obviously, we will not be directly sharing who received a warning or action.

Hopefully these changes will provide a bit more visibility into the actions we take against those players who are playing Ranked PvP unfairly. Win-trading takes away from the spirit of the game and is completely unacceptable. We know that win-trading in Ranked PvP is something all of you take very seriously, and so do we, so we’re making adjustments in how we handle and communicate around it going forward.

Mount flourish clarification originally posted on SWTOR.

EricMusco wrote:
Hey folks,

As Tait alluded to, we have a PTS patch coming today at 1:30PM CST. I am posting to let you know about a new keybinding that you may find and what it means.

Under keybinds, and movement, you will find that CTRL+Z is now bound to something called Mount Flourish. What this does, is upon using that binding it will have a special effect on some mounts. Think of it kind of akin to holstering your weapon, or using /special. This will not affect any existing mounts, it is going into the game to affect some mounts coming out in the future. We will have more information around those when they are closer to launch. Again, you may note this new keybind on PTS and I wanted to let you know what it means.

Thanks everyone!
