First off, a big thank you to everyone who competed in the Eternal Championship Solo Speed-run. We saw a lot of great competition and I know many of us in the studio spent a lot of time following along as you were posting videos and streaming your runs. With the Eternal Championship speed-run results being live, I know there will be some questions about how we arrived at the winning time.
First, I thought it best to remind everyone of the criteria we used to determine an official time. The timer for a run would start when a player picked up the [Solo] The Eternal Championship Mission, and the timer would end when that mission was completed and turned in. That Mission was effectively the start and finish line for the contest time.
We know that with websites such as Parsely, players can measure their run times in relation to other players. Keep in mind that for that site, Parsely can only measure your actual combat time within the Eternal Championship, so this is not consistent to the official timing of the contest. Also, within the contest rules there are a few criteria which will eliminate a player from being eligible to compete in the contest:
You must reside in an eligible Country to participate.
If a player has had a previous ToS or forum violation, they are ineligible for the contest.
If a player uses any form of cheating such as a bot, macro, etc. they become ineligible for the contest and are subject to ToS action.*
As I mentioned in a previous post there are some in-game actions which, although they are not ToS violations, are using game mechanics in an unintended manner. As an example and without getting into details there are two separate methods of using /stuck which can either increase an individual run time, or allow you to reset your runs faster. If a player uses these, or other subversion of normal Eternal Championship mechanics, they become ineligible for the contest.*
*Note: If someone is found to fall under either of these criteria the individual is disqualified from the contest, not just that run.
I hope this clears up any confusion on the contest results. Once again we want to thank everyone that participated in the contest. There were a surprising number of players who not only participated, but really hammered away at the Championship. As an example, one individual ran the Eternal Championship 310 times during the contest, that’s 22 runs a day! That’s some serious dedication.
One of the items we saw a lot of requests for in this thread are various Vibroswords. As we continue forward we will be adding Weapon Tuning Slots on to more and more weapons. However, we wanted to let you know that in the current plan, Vibroswords will not be receiving a tuning slot. We agree with you that they would be an awesome addition to Vibroswords, but the team has to work through some unique limitations for those weapons first. It is something we would like to do at some point, just not in the near term.
If anything changes on that front I will be sure to pass it on. Thanks for understanding.
We will be taking the servers offline on June 14th in order to perform back end updates. As there are no client-side changes, there won’t be a version number or download associated with this maintenance.
They receive some conflicting info on class balance even though the public generally thinks a class is OP or underperforming. In these cases, they wait a while to see what happens. His example are snipers: a couple of snipers were top of the Ranked leaderboard, but many were very low. Their other metrics suggested that snipers should be higher due to the balance at that time. They waited and over the ranked season they saw the other snipers increase in rank.
They also wait for some time to see if a balance problem is as bad as it seems at first glance. They find that a lot of small balance issues tend to fix themselves. (Larger ones need a patch typically.)
They are looking to announce class balancing way a head of time and give reasonings like they did with the last patch. Hopefully that will allow people to see their reasoning even if they don't like the changes.
Putting stuff on the PTS is not as easy as players like to think. (Mostly seems to be the fact that you would then have to make the deadline for having a patch done to a month or so ahead of release.) They also see very low actual playing participation on PTS most of the time. EDIT: And typically these are only the hardcore players when they want to balance for both casual and hardcore.
They don't like to make class balance right before an expansion / major overhaul of the class balance scene.
No plans to separate PvP and PvE class balance.
Some classes are on the top of the leaderboard, but have bad win/loss balance overall. They tend look at the overall average of classes to balance. Their example: Sorcs are topping the leaderboard right now, but have a slightly below average win/loss balance overall.
Skanktanking and offhealing is a problem they are currently discussing. They are looking at solving the whole problem and not just "band-aiding" it.
New abilities in 4.0 were an exception, not the new norm. They wanted all classes (except Gunslinger / Snipers) to have more mobility, not just some of them. New abilities will be more unique.
If they determine that they need a balance change, they do them "when they can" and preferably between Ranked seasons. They try to make many small change patches instead of general sweeping changes. (3.0 was an exception of course.)
Rewards for PTS have just encouraged most people to do the bare minimum to get the reward and not actually "test" the content. It does reward those that always do PTS though.
All intentional changes that aren't fixing exploits should be in the Patch Notes. Anything that isn't in the Patch Notes is a bug "99%" of the time if it doesn't fix an exploit.
Example: Not being able to leap to anyone on the Huttball goal line is a recent bug. Fixing the Sorc Barrier bug was very likely intentional and was fixing an exploit.
They know of the issue of premades in PvP. Any solution they came up with so far slows down queue pops. A fast queue pop is the biggest goal of the devs; the biggest complaint of players is a slow queue pop. The second biggest complaint for regular PvP is premades though.
No Ranked 8v8 PvP in the near future due to the above issue. EDIT: But Eric wished that it would come back.
They are working on adding cross-faction to more Warzones. Huttball is their first target since it is the easiest to do (no changes to VOs.)
Eric: "I had to throw in a Starfighter reference." Snave: "Shout out to the 1 player playing Starfighter."
Still working on the "better than cross-server."
They had hoped that more people would move into PvP instances than what they are seeing.
Players killed the PvP servers: they decided to move off the servers.
4.X has more new content than other post-expansion periods. However, some players don't like the kind of content they added (i.e. almost all single-player.)
Eric doesn't communicate as much as he could because he doesn't like to give "not answers" or communications that don't really give any information. Example: he doesn't answer threads about new ops since he has no news about new ops yet.
They cannot officially promote community content with curse words in it due to the game having a "Teen" rating and ESRB regulations. That is why they don't promote many of the fan sites and streamers out there. (EDIT: They also cannot promote events and streams that give out prizes without a bunch of US regulations.)
No plans on bringing back the PvP reps. Instead, they will bring in knowledgeable players to test big changes instead.
Players will question truthful official news from BioWare and not question false information from players.
Example: Many people that complained that they didn't have early access to KotFE were actually playing KotFE during early access at that time. Also, people stated that BioWare were banning people for using the free transfers when they were not.
This season in Ranked has had the highest number of hackers in it so far. Since the post last month asking for reports on these hackers, many people have reported these hackers and many of them have been punished.
At the same time, this season has seen a very low number of win-traders, partly due to the harsh punishments they received for the last few seasons.
Eric isn't even sitting in his desk in the EA Play picture. It is not their entire office. They just gathered some people in part of their office to get a group shot.
Bioware has recently unveiled the full details surrounding their "Dark vs. Light" event, which is scheduled to begin this coming Tuesday, June 28th (the conclusion date has yet to be set in stone, but has previously been indicated to be some point in the fall).
I would direct those interested to the official page for full details and tips on how to achieve some of the event objectives. Further tips and information may likely be found at Swtorista's and Dulfy's websites.

Guss Tuno carried out an overly-elaborate con job to convince the galaxy that his recruitment mission would go live with Chapter XV: The GEMINI Deception (4.6). But as with most of Guss’s con jobs, this caper has failed spectacularly. Guss Tuno’s recruitment mission has thus been delayed and will be made available in a future update.
There was an issue completing the final step of the mission that only showed itself when there were multiple people trying to do it at the same time. Would have caused a lot of problems for a lot of people and unfortunately we were not able to get a fix in place in time for 6/28. We decided to push Guss out of the update instead of delaying the release of Chapter XV.
There are a lot of forum posts and conversations happening around the Dark vs Light Event. We are paying attention and following what all of you are saying. Our plan is to share our thoughts on the Event during the Live Stream on Thursday (https://www.twitch.tv/swtor). That doesn't mean that changes are or aren't coming but we will talk through some of the main topics then. See you on Thursday!
One of the questions that came out of the Dark vs. Light Event announcement was the current maximum character limits per server. There are some players who have all 40 slots filled, and were concerned about participating in the event.
I wanted to let you know that we are actively testing right now the possibility of increasing that maximum by 10. That would mean that a subscriber could have a server maximum of 50 characters. We are exploring if this is a safe change to make and I am hopeful that I will have an answer about this today.
As soon as I have any other information I will pass it on. I wanted to make sure you all knew that this was in process. There is no guarantees this change will happen, we need to make sure it won't cause any issues!
Possible cc discount on character slot unlock too? Would be very neighborly of you BioWare.
Yup! They are on sale right now as a matter of fact .
The team spent today looking at what our options are for increasing the server maximum by 10. As of their current investigation, there are some hurdles we need to get over before we can implement this. I will continue to pass on updates as I have them over the next few days!
I just wanted to pop into the thread and confirm that the Heroic Mission Rewards were reduced. This wasn't intended to be a "stealth change," but it was missed from the patch notes and we apologize for that. We are working on getting it added to the notes soon.
During our last Producer Livestream we announced that Chapter XVI: The Battle of Odessen would go live on July 28th (early access on the 26th); as of today we have decided to move the release to August 11th (early access on the 9th). This Chapter reveals the climactic ending to the Fallen Empire story and we want to make sure it delivers the emotional impact that the story deserves. We are going to take this time to push it further in an effort to bring the Knights of the Fallen Empire’s final Chapter to a fitting ending – one that, in the tradition of all great Star Wars stories, leaves you wanting more! Thank you for your patience and we look forward to hearing your feedback post release.
Although we are moving the date, we want to reassure you that we are taking the necessary steps to ensure that you will not have any access issues when the time comes:
Players who qualified in July for the Sub Reward will still receive the July Subscriber reward on July 26th.
Players who qualified for early access by being a Sub on July 1 will still have early access to the Chapter on August 9th.
Players subscribed as of July 28th, will be granted access to Chapter XVI when it goes live on August 9th.
We are looking forward to sharing Chapter XVI with you and give you the chance to face your destiny as the Outlander - Thank you for your continued support!
I can confirm that there is an issue with Depths of Manaan granting credit for the Dark vs. Light Achievement. As some of you in the thread have guessed, the issue is caused by the environmental fire killing the boss instead of your character. If that happens, the Achievement will not properly track that you have completed the Flashpoint.
The way to get around this is to ensure that your character doing damage is what kills the final boss. As long as this happens you will get credit for the Achievement.
Thanks everyone. I will pass on any updates as I have them.
So how does this work for groups then Eric? People are reporting only one player getting credit...if that even. Is this being investigated as well?
Yeah we are looking into these reports as well. We suspect it is tied to the same issue. I will continue to pass on any updates that I receive.
Thanks for letting us know, but some players are confused because four objectives are missing from the Legendary achievement, including the HM FP objective. So right now, you don't even need to complete Manaan HM to get the Legendary level. Would be great to get a clarification on whether this will be fixed before Chapter 16 launches.
The HM Flashpoint Achievement missing from the Legendary Achievement will be fixed with 4.7.
We are still working through the other three and are planning to address them likely in 4.7.1. We are working through how this will impact anyone who has completed tier 6 at that point. We don't want to cause a negative effect on anyone's progress with any changes that we make.
We did confirm that there is an issue which is impacting the start of Conquests and Priority Operations. We are looking to have it addressed with the launch of 4.7 next week, but I will let you know. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.
With the launch of Game Update 4.7 we are introducing a new feature which will enhance the pack opening experience for all packs. This improves the visual experience of opening packs while ensuring that the process remains a quick one. There are two components of this new feature, the Pack Viewer and the Item Stash. Read More...
Will the contents of the DvL bound packs go into your legacy stash?
If so, is there anything being done retroactively?
To your first question, yes they will! To your second question, the answer is sort of. Any unopened DvL Packs which you have currently will open through the new pack opening after 4.7, allowing them to go into the Legacy Stash. This will have no effect on already opened packs or items which have been removed.
As a note, these changes will also effect any older packs which you may currently have, or that come back to the CM.

In order to be eligible, players must have completed Alliance Alert: To Find a Findsman and Alliance Alert: Arma Rasa, have completed “Chapter IX: The Alliance,” and must have been a Subscriber from January 11th to August 1st, 2016.
New Alliance Alert: Bonds of Duty! Admiral Aygo has located another potential Alliance recruit, this time on Nar Shaddaa. A former Republic Sergeant, Fideltin Rusk now leads a team of convicts turned soldiers known as the Dead Man’s Legion and could be a valuable asset to the Alliance.
Bounty Contract Week Returns! Hunt wanted criminals in this returning event. The event begins September 6th at 4:00AM PDT/12:00PM BST and ends September 13th at 4:00AM PDT/12:00PM BST.

I thought this thread was a good opportunity to talk about the communication as of late. Although I may not post every day, I am definitely here, reading the forums. I know that there is frustration right now because you are all eager to learn more about what is coming in Knights of the Eternal Throne. We just aren't ready to talk about Eternal Throne yet, and so I can't answer your questions at this time.
But, I do want to make sure you know when we will begin really talking about Eternal Throne. That date is October 7th. The day/night of our New York Comic-con Cantina is when you can expect details about Eternal Throne. Once we have crossed the 7th (and through launch), I will be able to address questions in the forum more directly, we will be posting developer blogs related to the expansion, and more.
I know this post is an announcement of an announcement but were almost there, only a few more weeks.
Can you let us know if the story team read the posts in the story and lore section and are aware of the massive number of plot holes, inconsistencies and in short bland, dull and banal story that was Kotfe?
Do the game play team read the forums and see that 20 mins of cut scenes followed by 10 mins of sky troopers falling from the sky an exciting chapter it is not?
While you can't talk about is the operations person planning just to rescale all ops to level 70 and call it a day, with no new operations? If so is there going to be an alternate method to get the new tier of gear without having to regrind the same operations again?
We talked a little bit about some of this on the last Producer Livestream, but I can address most of those:
Keep in mind that Eternal Throne is a continuation of the story in KOTFE. There are things that are not yet wrapped up or completed, and that is intentional. You aren't through the whole story yet...
The feedback of "killin' skytroopers" has definitely been passed on to the team, they are aware
Your last question I cannot answer since you are asking about content/gearing in Eternal Throne. More coming on that later.
There is so much more that I am so much more eager to learn more about than KotET. How about someone addressing five years worth of questions about guild management improvements? How about five years worth of questions about PvP balance issues? How about five years worth of concerns on the illusory nature of player choice in in SWTOR? How about five years worth of concerns about slow-to-non-existent developer feedback? That's just to name a few of the things people are actually "eager to learn more about."
Those are all topics I feel like we have talked about quite a bit, but I think those tend to be conversations that happen around Cantinas. They may not be as prominent on the forums:
Guild Management is something that we are always looking to improve. Guild quality of life is important and although I have nothing specific to announce, this is always a place we are looking for opportunities.
PvP balance, really any balance, is an on-going thing. We are always looking at the current state of the game and what needs to change. We have an expansion coming and if you look at previous expansions as an example, they typically come with changes...
Player choice is an interesting topic. KOTFE in many ways had more impact for your choices than our previous stories. One of the pieces of feedback we saw is that sometimes you may make a choice, but not see the consequences until much later on (Koth!). This can definitely lessen the feeling that those choices had impact, since the choice and impact of that choice were far apart.
Developer feedback is something that waxes and wanes a bit. Where we have opportunity to seek out feedback and for players to engage with developers, we try to take it. Previous conversations around class changes are the best examples. I know it isn't on-going, but we try to capitalize on those opportunities as we can.
Oh god, are you saying I can finally ENJOY the story content??
After killing 30 skytroopers, yes.
EDIT: Eric, if you see this, it's not all about KOTET. I never said anything about KOTET, you brought that up. Not everyone is excited for it. It's about general day to day communication and addressing other player concerns which I personally would like to see more of.
I know it isn't. The expansion, the future (especially group/MMO content), etc has been a prominent topic on the forums this week . A general thread about communication seemed like a good place to explain the reasoning around that silence.
I didn't mean to be a rule breaker and hi-jack your thread!
